Jamshedpur, Nov 25:  The Jamshedpur Mahanagar BJP branch units conducted signature campaigns at fuel stations in and around the city demanding the Jharkhand government to reduce its share of VAT on diesel and petrol prices. The BJP protestors were led by Mandal presidents of 28 individual party units. The BJP Mandal units conducted mass signature campaigns at all city petrol and diesel pumps. Reasoning with the masses, the BJP leaders stated that the Modi government had reduced excise duty on diesel and petrol and that had acted as a huge relief for citizens. “But the Jharkhand government has not reduced its share of VAT on fuel as a result of which the state citizens have so far been deprived of the reduced price benefits.”

BJP Mahanagar president, Gunjan Yadav moved around to every campaign spot and joined the party protestors against the state government’s disinclination towards reduction of its share of VAT. Gunjan said, “The JMM-Congress combine cried hoarse against the Modi government over petrol and diesel prices and when the central government reduces excise duty, the 13 BJP ruled states and union territories followed suit and reduced their quota of VAT from the cost of these fuels. But the JMM-Congress combine in Jharkhand is now keeping mum and staying put instead of reducing the state’s share of VAT. If the centre and BJP ruled states and union territories can reduce their taxes on fuel why cannot the Jharkhand government do the same?”

He appreciated the Narendra Modi government at the Center for reducing the excise duty on diesel-petrol and said that it has brought a lot of relief to the common man and the traders. The BJP Jamshedpur Mahanagar president said that the Jharkhand government was collecting Rs 17 on petrol and Rs 12.50 on diesel from the pockets of the public through 22 percent VAT and Re 1 cess. He said that the Hemant Soren government should take an early decision to provide relief to the people by reducing their share of VAT. If the Jharkhand government does not take a quick decision on this, then the BJP would  decide on a  roadmap for  phased agitation.

Led by BJP Parsudih Mandal President Tridib Chattaraj and BJP State Kisan Morcha and Zila Parishad Vice President Rajkumar Singh, party workers launched a public signature campaign at Rajendra Petrol Pump on Parsudih Cinema Road. Customers, especially women, who came to the petrol pump for fueling, extended their support to the campaign.

Under the leadership of BJP Baridih Mandal President Santosh Thakur, a signature campaign was conducted at New Baridih Petrol Pump on Thursday in which Mithilesh Singh Yadav, Babua Singh, Pawan Agarwal, Kumar Abhishek, Pramila Sahu, Sumit Srivastav, Girdhari Singh, Vijay Sahu, Pramod Mishra V Kalindi were present along with other party members.
